Jan shed of shame
The Shed of Shame Sc name was decided upon after the terrible murder of our very dear friend and brother Wayne. Wayne rode a star wars scoot some of you might remember him? he had a lot of silly sayings and one of them was, if any club member disgraced themselves while under the influence of alcohol he would send them to the shed of shame, we even had a gold silver and bronze award for every rally we went on! Waynes brother is still in our club riding Waynes scoot! x hope that helps!
Wirral squirrels was the earliest club then there was the Combine, Moreton Axix, Solid Bond, Achillies, Fat Tulips, Birkenhead bull dogs, back to zero, Birkenhead Elite, Are go FY!, c9, The Glitter!

thanks Jan (shed of shame)

arite the goldhawks were originaly founded in 1979 the then president (paul birmingham)came up with the name , the goldhawk social club was a 1960s mod social club in london the WHO were regulars on there , also the goldhawk club was the name of the club the mods attended in the film quadrophenia. the who also gave credit on the album TO ALL THE KIDS WE PLAYED TO AT THE GOLDHAWK CLUB IN SHEPERDS BUSH ( so thats were we took our name from ....there was an INCROWD in the allerton area of liverpool and although a couple of their lads had scooters it was not a scooter club (it was a gang of bootboys). as far as im aware cloud 9 has been established in birkenhead since the early 70s taking that name from a temptations song CLOUD 9. the merseybeats was the biggest club i ever remember someone may correct me but im sure they had about 90 members at one stage in late 1979. the liverpool apache was a 1970s scooter club as far as we are aware.

thanks john (goldhawks)

The first scooter club me and my mates went to, was the Outcrowd. We used to meet at the top of Jericho Lane, Aigburth Vale. This was in the late 60's. The club was run then by Johnny Davis, and later by Tommy Beattie (also known as Tommy Haggis). The name was a rebellion against society, non conformist, coz we didn't want to fit in, oh how times change !. There was a scooter club in the Warbreck Moor/Aintree area, which was the Cloud 9. We didn't really have much to do with them, and don't know what happened to them. Obviously, the Birkenhead Cloud 9 took up the name, probably by coincidence. In the late 60's, the only scooter club I know of on the (North) Wirral, was the Wirral Squirrels (stupid name I know, but who am I to judge ?). They had their own club house somewhere near Arrowe Park hospital as I recall. We went over there a couple of times. I got into fast Minis in the early 70's, so left the scooter scene alone for many years, although my brother and his mates rode Vespas in the 80's, but not really as part of any organised club I don't think. Here ends the trip down memory lane.......for now.

thanks geoff (liverpool sc)

with reference to birkenhead cloud 9.i can tell you that cloud 9 were formed in chester in 1969.they were formed bythe late steve newell, from lache and jez holden from blacon.steve later formed the centurions and sadly died a few years ago.cloud 9 were easily recognisable coz they had chrome helmets.these were sprayed but tape.i was in one of the numerous chester scooter clubs at that time and believe me i got some pastings from cloud 9.these days its peace n love man those days it was go into the wrong place and expect a kicking.we were th vx faces, mostly younger than cloud 9 and had about 50 scooters in our club.based in the vicars cross area of chester, first we were called the eastenders, living in the east of the city.all rode lambrettas, mainly li.or sx.infact i dont recall any scoots other than lammys in chester .skinhead to bootboy era.1968 to 1974.back to cloud 9,easly the biggest club in town with the hardest lads.most from the lache and blacon estates.stev told me one time they had gone to queensferry to fight some greasers, which they did,and went on to rhyl.at some time they came across some scooters from birkenhead and trouble was brewing!!!instead of the kick off they got talking and these lads jouined chester cloud 9.i met one of the guys a few years back but cant remember his name.his son was really good at footy, pro prospect,if anyone knows him!after a few years thescooter scene died down ans as far as i know thats how cloud 9 came to birkenhead.thru the chester club.cheers, steve now resident in wallasey.
